This has been irritating me for a while, so I am going to go ahead and MarandaRant about it. (I’m sure many will disagree, but I’m ready for it!)
Let’s take a fresh look and a new perspective at this — If you CAN be off on Thanksgiving, or any other Holiday, to spend with your family, that is AWESOME (and we all know I am all about spending all of the time I can with my friends and family, whenever I can!)
Some people do not have the luxury of not working on Holidays.
Drs, Nurses, Policemen, Firemen, Pharmacists, Paramedics, just to name a few. My grandma was a dispatcher for the fire department for almost 30 years. She worked either Thanksgiving or Christmas, Every.Single.Year, for my entire life.
If you have an accident, are you going to stay home from the hospital, just because it is a holiday? Not go to Walgreen’s for your emergency prescription because it is a holiday? Not call the police or fire department because it is a holiday?
What makes the cashier at K-Mart better than my husband and other pharmacist friends, my best friend who is a nurse, or my friend’s husband who is a police officer?
Why is the drive through worker at McDonald’s entitled to spend time with their family, but we take for granted that so many other essential employees are working?
Why are we all pledging to not shop on Thanksgiving when there are so many who have no choice but to work, on Thanksgiving? (Without any type of holiday compensation. In many cases it is just another day.)
So — I AM going shopping on Thanksgiving, because I can! And to take a stand for all of those who work EVERY.SINGLE.HOLIDAY, behind the scenes, that we all forget about.
I’m always super excited when I get a new VoxBox. (This is a box where you receive free trial items.) This VoxBox was no exception. Here are the items I received in no particular order — Playtex Sport Fresh Balance Tampons, Nivea Skin Firming Hydration Lotion, Softlips Cube 5 in 1 Lip Care, Labor Day movie air freshener, Rimmel London Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara, Kiss Everlasting manicure glue on nails. I will briefly review each item.
Playtex Sport Tampons – These tampons were easy to apply and were absorbent. They were on par with other tampons I have used. One thing that I didn’t like about these tampons was that they were lightly scented. I’m not a fan of scented feminine products. Otherwise, this was a good product.
Nivea Skin Firming Hydration Lotion — I am a huge fan of other Nivea lotions, so I was excited to try this. It did not disappoint. It was very moisturizing and I liked the product a lot. I didn’t notice any “firming” going on, but I think you may need to have more than just a trial size bottle and use it over a longer period of time for the “firming” affect.
Softlips cube — This is a very cute, innovative package. I loved that it was different than other chapsticks. The chapstick was moisturizing and worked well. It was on par with other chapsticks I have used and I definitely would use it again.
Labor Day movie air freshener — This air freshener smelled good. Not much you can say about an air freshener. It didn’t mask any odors but it did provide a nice smell. It wasn’t very strong.
Rimmel London Scandaleyes — This is a good mascara. I am a mascara Junkie and have used many, many mascaras including high end expensive mascaras. This is a good economical product. It worked well and didn’t clump (which is #1 for a mascara in my book). The brush on it is a little bit of an odd shape and it does take some getting used to.
Kiss Everlasting Manicure — I am not a fan of glue on nails, but I have used them in a pinch for a wedding or any time I need my nails to look nice. These worked great and look like a salon manicure. They are a good product if you like glue on nails. They are a pain in the rear to get off.
Overall I was a fan of the items in my SpringFling VoxBox.
This is a product review of the products I received for FREE from @influenster.
There were 3 products in my VoxBox from Colgate Optic White.
I was pleasantly surprised by the toothpaste. I am not normally a fan of whitening products because the toothpaste always seems to have a salty, baking soda flavor. I did not find this with these products. The products had a pleasant flavor that wasn’t offensive.
I am not normally a user of mouthwash, so I really can’t compare the results of this mouthwash to others other than to say it was easy to use, tasted pleasant, and left my mouth feeling very clean.
The toothbrush was a nice toothbrush. It cleaned well and was easy enough to use. It is a great medium bristle brush.
Overall I really enjoyed these products, I think I need to use them longer to truly rate their whitening capabilities, but I look forward to using these products in the future.
I’m a little behind writing this blog, but I wanted to review my Sugar and Spice VoxBox for everyone.
Optic White – I received 3 products from Optic White. Toothpaste, Toothbrush, and Mouthwash. All of these products worked very nicely. I was especially impressed with the toothpaste as it didn’t have the salty, baking soda flavor that many whitening toothpastes can have.
Nectresse – The Nectresse was a nice suprise. I am an avid Splenda user and was afraid of trying Nectresse because I am not really a fan of any other artificial sweeteners. The Nectresse was awesome. It nicely sweetened my tea/coffee without leaving a bitter after taste or an off flavor. I will definitely be buying more!
BelVita – I really enjoyed the BelVita. It was like a yummy graham cracker with more nutrients. I don’t love super sweet items for breakfast, and this was perfect.
Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Wipes – I have heard of Witch Hazel for years but hadn’t ever used it for anything. These wipes were great for wiping my face to get the grime of the day off. I was surprised they weren’t drying. They are perfect for travel or throwing into your purse.
Vaseline Spray & Go – This was probably my least favorite product. While I loved the lotion and have loved Vaseline lotions for years, I was disappointed. You have to rub it in quite a bit more than I anticipated you would have to based on the commercial and advertising. I didn’t feel comfortable just spraying and wiping like the girl in the commercial does. It seemed too heavy for that application. The moisturizer is great, it smells nice, and everything about it was good, but if you are looking for a truly spray and go moisturizer, this isn’t it.
Overall this was a good VoxBox. I enjoyed all of the items in the box and will probably use most of them again in the future.
I received the Goody Quickstyle Brush as a free trial in my Holiday VoxBox from Influenster. I have used many Goody products in the past, so I was super excited to try it. The Goody QuickStyle is a brush with microfiber loops inset with the plastic bristles. The microfiber loops are supposed to act like a towel to help dry your hair faster. I am not a good hair dryer. I am pretty good at everything else hair, but I am a remedial hair dryer, at best. This is largely because I am not patient and don’t want to take the time. I do not dry properly, I do not dry upside down or normally use a brush to comb each section of hair. I use the hair dryer on the highest heat and wind setting it has, and just kind of randomly shoot the dryer at my hair to dry it as quickly as possible.
When I tried the Goody Quickstyle, I actually dried it correctly, using the brush to comb through each piece of hair as I shot it with the dryer. I didn’t get the impression that my hair was drying faster. The brush is very good at detangling and holding the hair in place. The half round shape allowed me to curl my hair under as I got towards the ends. BUT — I just didn’t see a significant decrease in drying time. Also, I felt like the little microfiber loops got stuck in the bristles. I’m not sure if this affected the functionality of the brush at all, but it annoyed me. I used the brush a couple of times on my hair dry, to brush before styling, and I think that when you use it on dry hair, it makes your hair have more static. Both times I’ve used it I’ve ended up with more static in my hair than normal. Over all it is a good all around brush, but I’m not convinced it shortens drying time. I’ll continue to use it.
I received the Quaker Oatmeal Real Medley’s as a free trial in my Holiday VoxBox from Influenster.Let me preface this review by saying that I LOVE oatmeal. I LOVE most kinds of oatmeal. I even like plain oatmeal, nothing added.
My favorite Oatmeal is Oatmeal like my Granny makes with a little butter, milk, and sugar. But now that I’m grown I use splenda.
Because of my love for oatmeal I was super, super excited to see the Quaker Oatmeal Real Medley’s in my Holiday VoxBox.
This oatmeal was good, not great, not fabulous, not Oatmeal that is a gift from God, but it was good….. I received the Apple Walnut Oatmeal, which was slightly deceiving because it had cranberries and maybe some other kind of dried cherry in it. The oatmeal was super easy to make, had easy to follow instructions, and showed just exactly how much water to add. It was also convenient that you didn’t have to have a bowl to put it in. The flavor of the oatmeal was good. I liked it, but it had a LOT of Fruit and Nuts in it. The Fruit and Nuts almost over power the oatmeal. I would’ve liked it better if there were fewer Fruit and Nuts. Seemed like there was more add-ons than oatmeal. I am excited to try the other flavors of Real Medley’s. Can’t wait to find them in the local Grocery Store.
I received the EBoost Energy Powder as a free trial in my Holiday VoxBox from Influenster. The EBoost was okay. I got the pink lemonade flavor. The foretaste was bitter, but the after taste was a nice sweet lemonade. I don’t think there was a noticeable boost in energy, but I used it on a day I was very busy and moving around a lot. I think that it is definitely on par or better than other energy drinks I’ve tried and I liked that you don’t have to mix the powder with very much water. Kind of like a tiny little energy shot.
